Williams have revealed the one-off livery they will use at this weekend’s British Grand Prix to celebrate their 800th Formula 1 grand prix.
The team will not actually reach that landmark until the next race in Hungary, due to the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix earlier this year, which turned the British round into the 10th rather than the 11th event of the season. The livery, which is an adaptation of the usual livery adoring the Williams FW45, has been “designed with a British twist” as it includes a stylisation of the Union Flag on the engine cover. The team’s founding year, 1977 is also printed on the engine cover and the greater use of a blue-and-white colour scheme harks back to liveries of the mid-1990s and the 2000s.
While the livery will only be used for one event, the 800th grand prix celebrations will take place over the next two race weekends as the team wanted to include their home fans in the commemoration once they discovered the landmark would move to being in Hungary.
As part of the Silverstone celebrations, Williams’ brand ambassador Jenson Button will drive the FW14B which dominated the 1992 season during the British Grand prix weekend.
Williams is also due to run a special livery at the Singapore Grand Prix in honour of one of its sponsors.

Absolutely silly to celebrate 800th Grand Prix in their 799th race. And that livery is nothing to write home about.

Lots of things are celebrated on a different date. And the British GP is their home race….
Not that silly.

Like the back lights on a Mini, there’s a nasty niff of foreign owners taking the p… but at least the Union Flag is the right way up.

Anyone tell them that the British Union Jack is RED WHITE & BLUE? not Blue & White.

Ah, the famous “blue half-Jack”. This version of the flag is only hoisted on outdated battleships or F1 cars.
