We went to Hockenheim in 2006, viewing from the pits straight grandstand. Hockenheim is quite flat so you don’t see a great amount of the track but by standing at the top of the grandstand you can see across to Sachskurve and many people took advantage of this. Tickets in this grandstand were 150 euros for the weekend.
Getting to the circuit by car is very easy thanks to the excellent park and ride system but be warned that it’s a long walk from the bus stop to the circuit itself. Road signs from the autobahn to the car parks are not good.
Tissues and hand wipes are essential items, particularly if you’re female, as the toilet facilities are primitive to say the least. There is also very little shade, so pack sun cream if it’s hot. There is plenty of variety when it comes to food and drink, and there are cash machines in Hockenheim itself.
Do not camp at the circuit campsites unless you like not washing for three days and listening to German drinking songs at 4am.

Hi, I’m heading to Hockenheim this year, anyone know what the best way to get to the circuit is or what’s the best airport to fly to?

Well for me Hockenheim was a once and never again experience. I did not go there by choice (track is a disaster) but won a WE ticket on the Mercedes Grandstand so could not say no now could I? Off we went- but I with a mega expensive Merc ticket was not allowed on the Friday in the GA areas- please? I wanted to walk the track with my partner but I was not allowed into the “cheap” area with my expensive ticket? Only for the Friday you know……..unbelievable.
Loads of stealing on the campsite- pal of ours lost not only all his cash but camera etc……
Ugh like Hungary never again- give me a decent track like Spa and the atmosphere any day.

Will be in Schweinfurt, Germany on 7-12-09. Is there any public places to view the race? (like a sports bar??)

When :- spanish f1 gp 2008
Where :- SUD KURVE grandstand
So German GP is it a good one to go to?
+ Great views from the stadium, big screens.
+ Entertaining Grand Prix
+Cheap excellent quality food ad drink. The only race I’ve ever been to where its been priced at retail price. There were some wonderful pastries and fruit dishes they served up.
The disadvantages:
-The circuit is lockdown. Even with a Sliver ticket you can’t move round even on the Friday.
-Getting round the circuit is rubbish. You have to sort of go around the top end as the bottom end is closed off.
-Its in the middle of nowhere so you really need to go on an organised tour or drive. We did the former with MRI.
-Totall lack of atmosphere, we had 5 German drivers in the race and no one turned up. This year will be different as Mike is back.

Hey guys, anyone planning on going to the Nurburgring for 2011? I’m looking at road tripping it from Amsterdam. Not sure whether to camp or hotel it. Would welcome any tips or suggestions to sway my decision.
