The McLaren MP4-29H/1X1 was the team’s first car to carry a Honda engine in 22 years and was used to test the Japanese manufacturer’s first version of its V6 turbo hybrid at the end of 2014.
Outwardly similar to the Mercedes-powered MP4-29 the team contested the 2014 championship with, the MP4-29H/1X1 differed mainly around the rear quarters due to the different engine installation.
The car was driven for the first time at Silverstone on November 14th, 2014 by Oliver Turvey. As this was deemed a ‘promotional event’, the car was limited to a maximum of 100 kilometres.
However when McLaren brought the MP4-29H/1X1 to the final test session of the season at Yas Marina it was only able to complete five laps in two days.
