The Sauber C31 became the most successful car the team produced as an independent outfit, achieving four podium finishes during the 2012 season.
Sergio Perez scored the first three, beginning in Malaysia where he pressed Fernando Alonso hard for victory in wet conditions.
He was on the podium again in Canada and Italy, passing both Ferraris in latter on his way to second place. Kamui Kobayashi also delivered an emotional first podium finish at his home race in Suzuka.
But by the end of the year the team were starting to fall off the pace and were unable to capitalise on an opportunity to overhaul Mercedes for fifth in the constructors’ championship.
