The beloved former Formula One commentator for the BBC and ITV. He became a household name when the BBC’s F1 programme Grand Prix began broadcasting every race from 1979 onwards. He was especially famed for his ‘Murrayisms’ – hilarious on-air mistakes and exuberant over-enthusiasm. “He talks as if his trousers are on fire,” was Clive James’ famous description.
Having partnered James Hunt, Johnathon Palmer and Martin Brundle, Walker officially retired after the 2001 United States Grand Prix. But he returned to the microphone, aged 81, for the inaugural Grand Prix Masters race at Kyalami in 2005.
