  1. Nice list, thanks for making this compilation. It seems the public at large isn’t as bothered by safety cars as I am, but there are plenty of great races in here to watch a second time.

I was a bit surprised that the Crashgate Grand Prix race was ranked 99th.

    1. I’m sure it was rated before crashgate came to light.

      1. @iluvsoundtracks As @yoshif8tures points out the rating took place before Crashgate was exposed.

  3. Great to see China 2011 still up there, it was an excellent race and it was so due to good racing and interesting strategies rather than some of the others which appeared due to general chaos or weather interruptions.

We are lead to believe that the current regulations are horrible (i.e., cars can’t pass, they aren’t loud enough, DRS is too gimmicky, too much emphasis on fuel saving, they aren’t V8s or V10s, etc.), yet, 3 of the top 5 and 5 of the top 10 races are from the current format. Maybe things aren’t as bad as everyone acts like they are.

  5. 2012 really was a vintage year, wasn’t it? the key was variety – lots of teams were competitive so there were far more races when the quickest guys were out of position and fighting through (think Valencia and Abu Dhabi – typically dull races enlivened by fight backs from the title contenders).

although this sounds like i am in favour of a randomised grid – far from it. it was the competitive and close nature of the 2012 grid that created the action, not wacky, artificial rules.

    1. 2012 would have entered the realms of farce, however by midseason everyone largely figured out what they were doing and some order was restored. However we were then left with this fantastic core narrative for the title fight, multiple other contenders that came and went frequently, basically every team had some kind of story playing out. Lots of personal stories among the drivers too. Almost no-one came out of that year without an interesting narrative of some sort.

  6. Nice to know a) which races to unearth from the DVR in the occasional spare time and b) which races to show to young kids to educate the future F1 fans.

Note that the top 11 races all came from… *drum roll* The Pirelli Era

  8. Here’s how each year ranks in terms of races on the list:

    2008 – 11
    2009 – 8
    2010 – 14
    2011 – 15
    2012 – 15
    2013 – 12
    2014 – 15
    2015 – 8
    2016 – 2

Just proves what a bad year 2015 was. This year already has two races on the list.

    1. I never realised F1 was such a young formula… I must have been watching something else in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s… There were certainly some great races then, that make the some of those alleged top races snooze fests (as many of them were in the last 2 seasons)…

      1. Reply… Oops, just retread the opening paragraph again… My bad…. Still, only 3 races last season and 3 in 2014 were actually half decent races…

    2. @retardedf1sh what do you mean , ‘already’? We’re approaching the halfway point and at this rate 2016 will not get to 2015’s 8 races.

Anyway, I too am very fond of Brazil 2012. As a Vettel-fan that race had everything.

    3. Updated totals to end of 2019 season:
      2008 – 11
      2009 – 8
      2010 – 14
      2011 – 15
      2012 – 15
      2013 – 12
      2014 – 15
      2015 – 8
      2016 – 11
      2017 – 7
      2018 – 9
      2019 – 8

  9. 2 races this year have only made it into the top 100? I’m pretty surprised about that to be honest, I have found this years racing to be enjoyable so far, plenty of stuff of the track as usual but equally some great action on the track.

Having said that, Rate the race is often skewed heavily based on person driver team preference, no matter how good or a bad a race is, some people will vote 0 or 10.

  10. If you think recent races have been boring you should of been around when Michael S. and FERRARI won every race with no hope of any other results………… and if by some miracle F Massa was in the lead he would be told to relent to Michael…………… Even though Mercedes is dominating there is a good rivalry between Lewis and Nico plus the other top teams. Also very good competition for the podium from RED BULL and Ferrari……….. Thanks, Norris

    1. Well this didnt age well lol

There’s something wrong with the 2017 Belgian GP’s rating in rank #97. It was 7.25, not 6.73.

  12. Why is this page not updated?

  13. So far each season has produces this amount of races in the top 100:
    2008 9
    2009 4
    2010 9
    2011 14
    2012 14
    2013 10
    2014 11
    2015 6
    2016 12
    2017 9

This shows that despite all the criticism we are the first to acknowledge how much the racing has improved since the introduction of “designed to degrade” in 2011. Only 22 of the best races happened before the rule change, for an average of 7.3 per year. The other 78 took place after the rule change, for an average of 10.9 per year. That’s a massive improvement in the quality of racing.

  14. Does anyone have this in csv?

  15. 2008 – 7
    2009 – 3
    2010 – 6
    2011 – 10
    2012 – 11
    2013 – 6
    2014 – 7
    2015 – 4
    2016 – 9
    2017 – 7
    2018 – 9
    2019 – 8
    2020 – 4
    2021 – 9

  16. Do we have a complete list instead of 100 Top places, I want to see 2021 scores
    Thank you! :)

  17. Why are there no 2023 races? So far 2023 shapes up to be a record breaking season, but non of the 2023 races listened here, so weird.

    1. You really need to ask this?

There’s not really been a single race where the winner has been in doubt past the first few laps, Singapore being the exception when RB were nowhere.

    2. This list is updated sometime between seasons, not constantly. Apparently it has not yet been updated for 2023. A few should make it on the list.
