History
In 2012 the Virgin team was renamed Marussia following investment from a Russian sports car company. The small team narrowly missed out on tenth in the constructors’ championship that year, being pipped by Caterham in the final race, but came out ahead the following year.
Finally in 2014, the team’s fifth year of competition, it earned its first points in Monaco thanks to Jules Bianchi. But the year came to a disastrous end.
Bianchi was seriously injured in a crash during the Japanese Grand Prix. Meanwhile the team was in increasingly serious financial trouble, and having run a single car for his team mate Max Chilton in Russia, withdrew from the rest of the championship.
However that winter an 11th-hour rescue package allowed the team to return to the championship, now branded as Manor Marussia.
